We travelled to Asia every January since Odd Couple opened in 2014. Each visit we tried to bring what we experienced back to the Odd Couple but with our own interpretation.

“Travels with Odd Couple” is a Dinner Set Series with menus featuring a particular region of Asian Cuisine. It’s not aimed to be authentic; rather it is an inspiration and a basis to merge Asian flavours with Saskatchewan / Canadian ingredients while having some fun.

Some background:

In January 2018, our family visited Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City and surroundings) for the first time. Full disclosure - We were in a tour for six days so I am not sure how authentic our experience was. During the trip, we found that there is a lot of Chinese/Cantonese cooking influence in Vietnamese food. The flavours and technique are quite similar; but Vietnamese cooking uses a lot more fresh herbs.

All the dishes within the set menu have their own stories: Mama Jane learned Vietnamese cooking from another local restaurant; Chef Ivan was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He used his traditional recipes in this menu; Andy & Rachel come up with the Ice cream recipe and Jordan, the owner from Fable made this recipe come true! We locally sourced the meat from our friend Kevin & Melanie owners of Pine View Farms.

We hope you enjoy the trip!
